EWS1 certificates

EWS1 certificates Petition

Londoners are trapped in unsellable homes due to unacceptable delays with EWS1 certificates.

EWS1s - or External Wall System Fire Review certificates - are designed to assess the fire safety of a building’s exterior. Stricter regulations were put in place after the tragedy at Grenfell to ensure the quality and competency of fire risk assessors.

However, with too few trained fire engineers, far too many Londoners are waiting multiple years for an EWS1 for their home. Without this, they are unable to sell. This leaves families trapped in homes they can no longer afford, have naturally outgrown or don’t meet their changing needs.

The Liberal Democrats are calling for funding to clear the backlog of people waiting for their EWS1 certificates and reduce waiting times by increasing the number of training course places for fire engineers in London.

Join us in supporting Londoners by signing the petition below.

EWS1 certificates

We the undersigned call on the Mayor of London to acknowledge the urgent need for more fire engineers trained in conducting EWS1s. We want reduced wait times for leaseholders, granting them safety and peace of mind as well as the freedom to sell their properties.
