Asking residents what matters to them has long been a central component of winning Lib Dem campaigns - and rightly so as voters expect real action from their representatives. This works at every level - from local council campaigns to our big Parliamentary successes. Read more about surveys on ALDCs site.
These templates are branded for London as our first step in the campaign for the London 2024 Mayoral and Assembly elections. However of course the contacts made will be beneficial to all of your local campaigns and we recommend you run them in your target areas. The templates have been produced in Serif's Affinity Publisher version 1 and PDFs are offered too. The questions match what is on Connect and in the online version.
GETTING THE BEST RESPONSE
Getting the maximum number of replies from residents is important if we are to discover the full range of local issues. Ideally choose the "knock and drop" version. Each session you will choose an area (a street for example) and call on residents to explain that we're conducting a survey to collect their views; we then leave the survey with them, inviting them to complete it and leave it hanging from their letterbox; we call back in an hour or so and collect the completed forms. Of course it takes time to work through an area but the high response rate is worth it. It also means you can quickly and easily feedback the outcomes in a simple street letter.
Alternatives are to simply deliver the survey across the area; a slightly improved response is to be expected with the addressed, enveloped version but the ideal in terms of replies is the knock and drop choice outlined earlier.
FREEPOST LONDONLIBDEMS
Development and Startup seats can use the London Region FREEPOST address shown on the templates (all capitals, all on one line, nothing else required) and the London Region team will process your replies.
ONLINE VERSION
There is also an online version of the survey produced in Typeform and again the London Region team will handle the data entry of these responses for you and add them into Connect. This is shown on the templates and also included is a QR code for residents to scan and respond.

Please talk to your campaigns contacts about preparing your survey, customising, print etc, We can advise on a number of commercial print companies that we regularly use, ways you can print locally or using a party print society. Remember to plan time for preparation and printing!
After your survey
It's vitally important to plan how you will feed back to residents with the outcomes of the survey and the action we are taking or the value of your work will be largely lost. A simple street letter is absolutely fine - indeed the simple version delivered a week or two after the survey will have a powerful impact whereas a highly polished version delivered months after the survey has been forgotten will be a poor use of your time!
